Lieutenant Governor

Vice-Regal and Commissioners’ Commendations

Vice-Regal and Commissioners’ Commendations were established in 1998 and are awarded for commendable service benefiting the office of the Queen’s representative.

Design

The Vice-Regal and Commissioners’ Commendation is in the form of a blue bar approximately 2.1 cm in length. In the centre of the bar is a white roundel charged with three red maple leaves and surmounted by the Royal Crown.

The Commendation includes the presentation of a lapel pin consisting of the roundel, maple leaves and Crown.

Significance

The bar is coloured blue, the background colour of the flags used by most Lieutenant Governors and the Governor General. The three maple leaves on white are drawn from the Arms of Canada. The design is surmounted by the Crown in recognition of the fact that the Commendation is meant to recognize those who serve the Crown in Canada.

Nomination

Nominations are at the behest of an incumbent Lieutenant Governor or Territorial Commissioner and are processed by the Chancellery in Ottawa.
