Foundation Awards
Lieutenant Governor’s Technology and Innovation Award
The Lieutenant Governor’s Technology and Innovation Award was established in 2005 in partnership with the BC Innovation Council.
The Award recognizes an individual or small team who has developed a highly innovative, new technology based on applied research conducted in British Columbia. The demonstrated technology will have had a positive impact upon the Province (i.e. social, economic, and/or environmental) with the potential of also being recognized on a national or international basis. Factors taken into consideration will be a cost benefit analysis, risk assessment, impact statement and overall innovative significance.
Lieutenant Governor’s Awards for Public Safety
The Lieutenant Governor’s Awards for Public Safety were created in 2005 in partnership with the British Columbia Safety Authority to recognize individuals and organizations demonstrating exceptional leadership, achievement or innovation in the promotion of safety in British Columbia.
Lieutenant Governor’s Conservation Award
The Lieutenant Governor’s Conservation Award was established in partnership with Ducks Unlimited Canada to recognize outstanding leadership, dedication and commitment to promoting public awareness of the value of conserving wetland and associated habitats in British Columbia for the benefit of waterfowl, wildlife and people.
Lieutenant Governor’s Awards for Excellence in British Columbia Wines
The Lieutenant Governor’s Awards of Excellence in British Columbia Wines were established in 2003 by the then Lieutenant Governor, the Honourable Iona Campagnolo, and the Government House Foundation. The annual Awards recognize and honour the best wines made from 100% British Columbian grown grapes and produced within the Province.
Lieutenant Governor’s Award for Literary Excellence
The Lieutenant Governor’s Award for Literary Excellence was established in 2003 by the Government House Foundation and BC Book Prizes. The Award recognizes British Columbian writers who have contributed to the development of literary excellence in the Province.
Lieutenant Governor’s Award for Engineering Excellence
The Lieutenant Governor’s Award for Engineering Excellence was established in 1998 in partnership with the Consulting Engineers of British Columbia. The Award is presented annually to recognize excellence in engineering.
Lieutenant Governor’s Silver Medal (University of Victoria)
The Lieutenant Governor’s Silver Medal was established in partnership with the University of Victoria in 1994. The Silver Medal is awarded for outstanding work by a graduate student in a master’s program.
Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia Awards in Architecture
The Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia Awards in Architecture were established in 1990 in partnership with the Architectural Institute of British Columbia (AIBC). The Awards recognize recently completed architectural projects led or designed by AIBC members. Short-listed entries are considered for one of two award levels, 'Medal' or 'Merit' and are judged on how they reflect excellence in architectural design and practice.

Lieutenant Governor’s Silver Medal for Excellence in Public Administration
The Lieutenant Governor’s Silver Medal for Excellence in Public Administration was established in 1987 in partnership with the Institute of Public Administration of Canada. This award is presented annually to a public servant who has demonstrated exceptional achievement and distinctive leadership in public administration. The award pays tribute to public sector practitioners whose careers exhibit the highest standards of excellence, dedication and accomplishment.
Lieutenant Governor’s Medal for Historical Writing
The Lieutenant Governor’s Medal for Historical Writing was established in 1984 in partnership with the British Columbia Historical Federation. It is awarded each year for the previous year’s best book about an aspect of British Columbia history.
Lieutenant Governor’s Silver Medal
Established in 1979 by the Ministry of Advanced Education, the Lieutenant Governor’s Silver Medal is awarded to students in vocational or career programs less than two years long who have excelled in their studies and who have contributed to the life of their post-secondary institution or their community. Nominees are chosen by the institution they attend.

Lieutenant Governor’s Trophy
The Lieutenant Governor’s Trophy was established in 1967 in partnership with Maple Bay Yacht Club. The trophy is awarded annually to the overall winner of the Labour Day Regatta hosted by the Maple Bay Yacht Club.
Lieutenant Governor’s Handicap
Established in 1961 in partnership with Hastings Racecourse in Vancouver, the Lieutenant Governor’s Handicap is run annually on July 1st. The one and one-eighth mile race is open to three year olds and up and has a purse of $100,000.
Lieutenant Governor’s Prize
The Lieutenant Governor’s Prize was established in partnership with the British Columbia Rifle Association. It is awarded annually at the British Columbia Target Rifle and F-Class Championship. The Lieutenant Governor’s Prize is the most prestigious win in the individual matches.
