Office of the Lieutenant Governor

The Office of the Lieutenant Governor supports the Lieutenant Governor in delivering her mandate and fulfilling her vice-regal, constitutional, celebratory and promotional responsibilities. The Office is also responsible for managing and maintaining Government House, the ceremonial home of all British Columbians, and its surrounding 36 acres of gardens. The Estate of the Lieutenant Governor is a recognized National Historic Site.

To assist and enable the Lieutenant Governor to fulfill the duties of her role, the Office:

  • Provides advice, support and planning and implementation for the over 300 events attended by the Lieutenant Governor each year, both at Government House and throughout British Columbia;
  • Plans and implements the Lieutenant Governor's priority programs across the province;
  • Promotes and celebrates the heritage and traditions of the Office and of Government House through public outreach and visitor programs;
  • Maintains Government House and its grounds for the enjoyment of the public.

The Office of the Lieutenant Governor and Government House are financially supported by federal, provincial and non-public funding.

Annually, the Honourable Judith Guichon, 29th Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia, produces a statement about the activities of the Office and Government House. The statement highlights the roles of the Lieutenant Governor, her priority programs and the support of the Office and the Government House Foundation.
