The Government House Foundation
The British Columbia Government House Foundation was established in December 1987 by the then Lieutenant Governor, the Honourable Robert G. Rogers, in cooperation with the Provincial Government.
The objectives of the Foundation have been formally set out in its Constitution:
- To foster the preservation of Government House and its grounds, and enhance its decor, character, maintenance, and historical and cultural values;
- To encourage and ensure
- the use and public display of British Columbia arts, crafts and designs at Government House;
- that its grounds reflect plant life indigenous to the Province;
- To encourage public awareness of Government House, its historical and cultural values, maintenance and preservation;
- To receive gifts, bequests and donations to assist the Foundation in carrying out its objectives.
Funds donated are placed in a trust account with proceeds directed for the benefit of Government House. Gifts in kind may also be accepted for display and use in Government House. All donations are eligible for income tax deduction.
The Foundation has four Honorary Trustees: The Lieutenant Governor and spouse; The Chief Justice of British Columbia; and the Private Secretary to the Lieutenant Governor.
The Foundation’s Trustees are elected to a three-year term. They are British Columbians who represent particular areas of knowledge — law, history, engineering, horticulture, the arts, etc. — as their role is not only to guide the Foundation’s activities but also to serve as advisors to Government House when so requested by the Lieutenant Governor.
