Remarks by the Honourable Steven L. Point, OBC
Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia
Long Service Awards
Wednesday, October 15, 2008
Victoria, British Columbia
First of all, allow me to congratulate tonight’s recipients for reaching this important milestone in your career as a public servant. If life is a journey than you have truly travelled a great distance and I am sure have witnessed many interesting things.
We are here tonight at Government House to acknowledge your dedication to British Columbia and I for one am honoured to be here to share in this celebration. These awards of recognition are for years of public service in the following departments: Labour and Citizens’ Services, Liquor Distribution Branch, and the Workers’ Compensation Appeals Tribunal.
As you know, the elected members of government make law and policy, while the government employees implement that policy by providing necessary services to the public. Public servants are the face of government in that they meet the public on the front line, delivering information and providing essential services that we have all come to know and expect from what we call good government.
That you have served this long tells me three things: that you enjoy what you are doing, that you excel at what you do, and that you bring success to your work place. Thank you for your energy, thank you for your commitment to professional service delivery, and thank you for these many great years of service.
- Honorary Aides-de-Camp:
- - Lieutenant-Commander David Harris
