Remarks by the Honourable Steven L. Point, OBC
Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia
Saint Michael’s Centre Therapeutic Garden Opening
Tuesday, May 13, 2008
Burnaby, British Columbia
Thank you to Reverend Michael Sabara, Chair of the Therapeutic Garden Centre, for the invitation for me to attend this wonderful occasion. I would also like to acknowledge the distinguished guests: Helen Elias, Executive Director of St. Michael’s Centre; His Worship Derek Corrigan, Mayor of Burnaby; Chief Rhonda Larrabee, Qayqayt First Nation; Elders Mary Charles and Christie Charles, Musquem First Nation.
Congratulations on this, the 25th anniversary of St. Michael’s Centre. I understand that tonight will be the formal opening of the Chapel Garden. All of the Board members of both the Centre and the Foundation must be congratulated for their efforts in the completion of this, their third therapeutic garden at St. Michael’s. This could not have been completed as well without the hard work of the many volunteers and the generous financial gifts made by so many donors. The gardens will provide a place for families and residents of the centre to share time together and to enjoy the beauty of God’s flowers.
I am very honoured to be here with you and I wish you great success in the future, as this centre I’m sure will continue to provide a much appreciated service to all British Columbians. On behalf of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, thank you for your dedication and service to your community.
