Remarks by the Honourable Steven L. Point, OBC
Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia
Order Of St. John Investiture
Friday, May 2, 2008
Victoria, British Columbia
This is truly a remarkable day for Gwen and I. I have been looking forward to this event for some months now. In preparation, I have been reading the history of the Order from its origins as the Knights Hospitaller of the Crusades founded in 1080 in Jerusalem. We thank you for this honour.
The Office of the Lieutenant Governor is a very busy office that requires my attendance at a great many events during the year. I think it is fair to say that none of these can compare with St. Johns in terms of its long history and important community service.
When I first accepted the appointment as B.C.’s 28th Lieutenant Governor I did not know all that was to come or all the things that were expected. It was a pleasant surprise to learn that we would be joining the Order of St. John.
I look forward to learning more about the Order of St. John and meeting the membership at future events as they arise. Thank you.
