Canada Day Citizenship Ceremony

His Honour attends and speaks at the Canada Day Citizenship Ceremony held at Canada Place in Vancouver. The traditional Citizenship Ceremony is an integral component of the day-long Canada Day celebrations. Seventy new Canadians take their oath of citizenship in front of more than 1,500 guests, family members and dignitaries.


Ktunaxa Nation Boot Camp Graduation

His Honour inspects the graduates of the Ktunaxa Nation Boot Camp. These First Nations youth camps challenge the participants physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. The focus of the camp is self-awareness, self-esteem, self-discipline, team work and leadership.


Rockland Neighbourhood Association Reception

His Honour welcomes members of the Rockland Neighbourhood Association at a reception at Government House.


Navy Memorial Window

His Honour visits the new Navy Memorial Window recently unveiled at St. Paul's Anglican Church in Esquimalt.

On July 8, the Linden Singers and PACE Musical Theatre kick off the first of three concerts for the 2010 Music on the Lawn series. The public concerts begin at 6pm in the new bandshell on the east lawn of the Government House grounds. Refreshments for sale. Please bring your own blanket or chair.

Their Honours attend the annual Lejac Pilgrimage. Every summer on the second weekend of July people come from near and far to celebrate, pray and honour the memory of Rose Prince.


Peter Gzowski Invitational Golf Tournament for Literacy BC

His Honour plays in the PGI Golf Tournament for Literacy BC in Vancouver. Held annually in every province and territory, these tournaments raise resources for the thousands of adult learners who struggle with low literacy.

Government House Volunteers Summer Barbecue

His Honour hosts a summer barbecue for those who have volunteered at Government House over the past year. Volunteers at Government House work in the gardens, provide tours, design flower arrangements, work in the archives, take photographs and help out at events.

As the Vice-Prior of The Venerable Order of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem in British Columbia, His Honour invests British Columbians accepted or promoted in the Order.


Fire Chiefs’ Association of British Columbia Conference

His Honour attends the opening of the Fire Chiefs’ Association of British Columbia Conference in Penticton. The FCABC is a non-profit organization that provides a forum for the exchange of ideas and educational information relevant to the fire service in British Columbia.

Official Launch of the University of Victoria’s Colonial Despatches

His Honour hosts a tea in honour of the official launch of Colonial Despatches. The University of Victoria Libraries are making the Vancouver Island Governor’s (1846-1857) despatches available to the public in a digital edition. The documents contain day by day reports of the Governors of the Colony, as well as the Colonial Office minutes, correspondence and responses to the Governors.

Freedom of the City Parade

His Honour attends the Freedom of the City in Victoria. Freedom of the City means, in the physical sense, the granting of the privilege for all time for a specific military unit to march through the city with "drums beating, colours flying, and bayonets fixed." This is a most prized honour, for it recognizes the honourable record of the military unit, and demonstrates the affection and esteem with which it is held by the community and the trust the citizenry has in the military to protect its democratic institution.

Unveiling of the Homecoming Statue

His Honour officially unveils the Homecoming Statue created by local sculptor Nathan Scott. The bronze statue is a gift from the community to honour the Canadian Naval Centennial. It represents the bond between the Greater Victoria community and every sailor who ever sailed from the Naval Dockyard in Esquimalt and returned to welcoming family.

Girl Guides Chief Commissioner’s Gold Award

At a ceremony at Government House, Her Honour presents the Girl Guides 2010 Chief Commissioner’s Gold Award. The Chief Commissioner’s Gold Award is the ultimate award a young woman can earn as a Member of the Girl Guides of Canada before becoming an adult. A pin is awarded with a Certificate when she completes all of the challenges in the Core, plus the challenges in her branch of the program. These challenges must be completed while she is a Member of the Senior Branches, which includes girls ages 15 – 17 and up.

Their Honours attend the 39 Canadian Brigade Group’s Garrison Officers Military Ball in Vancouver. The 39 Canadian Brigade is Canada’a Army Reserve in British Columbia, committed to high readiness in response to domestic emergencies and to the augmentation of the Regular Force in overseas operations.


10th Anniversary of the Nisga’a Final Agreement

His Honour travels to New Aiynash to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Nisga’a Final Agreement.

Tour of Chinese Canadian Military Museum

His Honour tours the Chinese Canadian Military Museum. The Chinese Canadian participation in the World Wars is largely unknown within and outside the Chinese communities, yet their contribution changed the social landscape of Canada forever. The role of the museum is to collect, record and preserve artifacts, memorabilia and photographs and tell their wartime stories.


Arion Male Voice Choir Concert “Songs of the Sea”

His Honour attends this concert as part of the Naval Centennial Celebrations. The Arion Male Voice Choir has continued without interruption since being founded in 1892. The Choir performs numerous concerts throughout the year. As a registered charity, the choir also performs many charity concerts in Nursing and Retirement Homes around Vancouver Island.


Duke of Edinburgh Awards

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award program helps young people between the ages of 14 and 25 to develop self-reliance, perseverance, initiative, self-improvement, and responsibility towards themselves and their community. His Honour presents awards to recipients during a ceremony at Government House.

His Honour is the reviewing officer for the 15th Annual Ceremonial Review of the Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps Admiral RC Waller and the Navy League of Canada –Sooke Branch. The ceremony provides cadets with the opportunity to showcase what they have learned during the year as well as the pride, discipline and team spirit they have developed.
