2010 Paralympic Torch Relay

His Honour welcomes the Paralympic Torch Relay to the Legislature in Victoria. The 10-day relay gives many Canadians a chance to discover the unique and inspiring stories of Paralympians and other Canadians who defy the odds.


2010 Accessibility Showcase

His Honour speaks at the 2010 Accessibility Showcase in Vancouver. The conference brings together representatives from the disability, sport and other organizations to engage in discussion and share innovations and best practices around accessibility and inclusion for people with disabilities.


Lieutenant Governors’ and Territorial Commissioners’ Conference

His Honour hosts the annual Lieutenant Governors’ and Territorial Commissioners’ Conference in Vancouver.


Vancouver 2010 Paralympic Games

Over the course of the Vancouver 2010 Paralympic Games, His Honour will meet with many visiting dignitaries and will attend as many events and ceremonies as possible in recognition of our Canadian athletes and the people of British Columbia.


Community Courage Award

Their Honours attend the presentation of the Community Courage Award to Judge Alfred Scow. The Award is presented by the Vancouver Aboriginal Community Policing Centre Society and recognizes Judge Scow’s contribution to Aboriginal justice issues.


Victoria Police Department Exemplary Service Awards

His Honour presents Exemplary Service Medals to members of the Victoria Police Department who have completed 20 and 30 years of exemplary service.


Industry Council for Aboriginal Business Leadership Exchange Awards

His Honour attends the ICAB Exchange Awards Ceremony in Vancouver. The Leadership Exchange program allows seniors executives and community leaders to gain important insight into each other's roles to create a deeper understanding and mutually beneficial Aboriginal/corporate relationships.


Special Sitting of the British Columbia Court of Appeal

Community Justice Forum: Enhancing Partnerships in Community Safety

His Honour delivers opening remarks at this one-day Community Justice Forum hosted by the Correctional Service of Canada and the Sto:lo Tribal Council. The event explores traditional Aboriginal healing methods towards the goal of healthy communities – a critical path toward safe communities.

New Year’s Day Levée

Their Honours host the annual New Year’s Day Levée at Government House. Their Honours greet the public and visitors are invited in for refreshments and to enjoy the music of Victoria’s Naden Band and the Canadian Scottish Regiment Pipes and Drums.

His Honour hosts a dinner in honour of the British Columbia Court of Appeal’s Centenary. The first sitting of the Court took place on January 4, 1910 in Victoria.


Kiwanis Club of Victoria 90th Anniversary

The Association maintains and strengthens the bonds formed between those who served, or those who are currently serving, as aircrew in the armed forces. Correctional Service of Canada - Exemplary Service Medal Ceremony

At a ceremony in Abbotsford, His Honour presents medals to 15 staff members for having distinguished careers in Corrections over the past 20 or more years. Recipients of the Correctional Exemplary Service Award are held in high regard and exemplify the high standards approved by the Chancellery of Canadian Orders and Decorations for medal recipients.

Each year, Government House hosts the Public Service Long Service Awards. The ceremony recognizes and celebrates those who have worked in the British Columbia Public Service for 25, 30, 35 and 40 years. The recipients at this ceremony are from:

  • Ministry of Advanced Education and Labour Market Development;
  • British Columbia Pension Corporation;
  • Ministry of Children and Family Development;
  • Ministry of Education.

Long Service Awards

Each year, Government House hosts the Public Service Long Service Awards. The ceremony recognizes and celebrates those who have worked in the British Columbia Public Service for 25, 30, 35 and 40 years. The recipients at this ceremony are from:

  • Attorney General;
  • Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner;
  • Office of the Merit Commissioner.

2009 Bench and Bar Dinner

His Honour attends and speaks at the 2009 Bench and Bar Dinner. Co-hosted by the Law Society of BC and the BC branch of the Canadian Bar Association, the dinner offers lawyers and judges a unique opportunity to enjoy an evening of good company and conversation.

Opening of the Royal BC Museum Exhibit:
S’abadeb: The Gifts: Pacific Coast Salish Art & Artifacts

His Honour officially opens the new exhibit at the Royal BC Museum. This exhibition, created by the Seattle Art Museum, explores the unique artistry and culture of Coast Salish People. The exhibition features more than 165 works of art from national and international collections that offer a glimpse into the daily and ceremonial lives of 39 sovereign Salish nations.

Canadian Scottish Regimental Dinner

His Honour attends the 72nd annual Canadian Scottish Regimental Dinner in Victoria. The Canadian Scottish Regiment (Princess Mary’s) is an infantry unit of Canada’s Army Reserve, the Militia. The Regiment is in 39 Canadian Brigade Group of Land Force Western Area.
